More Places to Be While in Switzerland

Switzerland is the watch making capital of the world, as many people may already know. But there is more to this rich land beyond its luxurious Swiss watches, tasty decadent chocolates, and over 450 cheese varieties. Switzerland prides itself as being a world class tourist destination that you should not miss, and there are many cities for you to enjoy.

Lucerne

Lucerne, which is the capital city of the Canton of Lucerne is the 6th most populous city in all of Switzerland. Tourists from all over the world flock this city, and among the best spots to visit is the Kapellbrucke wooden bridge, which was built in 1333. Other key attractions here are the Swiss Transport Museum, Church of St. Leodegar, and the Lowendenkmal, or the Lion Monument created by Bertel Thorvaldsen in Lowenplatz.

Getting around the city of Lucerne is a breeze, with railways, buses, and trolleys very accessible, so you can easily travel from one tourist spot to another. You can also shop within the busy metropolis of Lucerne, and you can get chocolates, watches, and more. A famous Swiss watch manufacturer, the Lucerne Watch Company established its headquarters here.

Lugano

After Lucerne, you can include the city of Lugano in your itinerary. This city is along the southern border of Switzerland, and since its canton, Ticino, is near Italy, you can expect the residents of Lugano to speak Italian. The population of Lugano ranks as 9th in Switzerland. Lugano is a favored destination for tourists from around the world because of the warm and cozy climate that seems to speak of summer all year round.

You can have a tour of Lake Lugano via pedal boat, and you may also view historic churches like the 16th century St. Mary of the Angels Chruch, and St. Lawrence Cathedral, which has been around since 9th century. Museums are also abundant in Lugano, like the Cantonal Art Museum and the Cantonal Museum of Natural History. You can see more of Lugano when you ride the funicular, which is like a ski lift on tracks.

The city of St. Gallen

Here is another place for you to check out, especially when you are in the Canton of St. Gallen. The city of St. Gallen ranks as having the 7th largest population in Switzerland, with over 75,000 residents. For music and theater lovers, St. Gallen has concert halls that showcase ballets, operas, and orchestra performances all year round. The Theater Hall St. Gallen is the most recommended place to watch cultural shows.

For museum tourists, you may visit the Art Hall of St. Gallen, the textile museum, or the historical and ethnography museum, among many others. The convent of St. Gall is considered by UNESCO as a world heritage site. For you to be able to get around St. Gallen, you may travel by car, by private railway, by plane, or by bus.
